Convergence is a mixed media nature painting that was created by combining parts of two different monoprints. It was then completed by adding mixed media such as acrylic paint and inks. A monoprint is a one-off print made by putting printing inks on a smooth surface and then transferring it onto heavy-weight 100% cotton printmaking paper, using an etching press (hand-powered). I build up many layers of transparent ink to achieve a rich, brilliant image. Each print is passed through the press many times, until I feel satisfied that the image is something I can expand on. There is no permanent plate, so the image cannot be repeated. I love the variety of beautiful colors and luminosity that result from this process. I hope you will, too.
All of my work is inspired by nature and by my belief in the oneness of everything in the universe. This mixed media nature painting is a reflection of that belief. Since prehistoric times, humans have personified the forces of nature. Not having the scientific knowledge to understand these natural forces, they saw the mysterious objects that moved through the sky as spiritual or supernatural beings, such as gods and goddesses. Many people who practice nature-based religions still find meaning in connecting to the powers of nature in this way. Whatever our spiritual path, most of us still marvel at the beauty of the sun and the moon. Who hasn’t stared into the night sky and looked at the full moon, or watched as it progressed through its phases? Who hasn’t watched the glorious colors of a sunrise or sunset? Convergence focuses on the sun and the moon, and the balance of their opposite energies.
Convergence is a 13 x 7 inch framed mixed media piece on Rives BFK printmaking paper. I hope it will add the beauty of nature to your home or office.
