Transformation 24 is one of an ongoing series of 7 x 7 inch artworks that began several years ago somewhat by accident. You can find out more if you’d like to read about it on this blog post. The juxtaposition of nature-inspired forms in this piece come from my deep belief that everything in the universe is one. We are made of the same things as the stars, the earth, and the oceans, and so we are connected in countless ways, both visible and invisible. While making this colorful mixed media collage, I was guided by my own impressions of the primal forces of nature, and the unseen energies that flow through us all. This particular piece combines the openness of space with plant forms surrounding the figure of a fetus; suggesting a connection between humanity and the beginning of life. The monotype elements have been embellished with other media such as colored pencils and watercolor crayons. The colors are a balance of the three primary colors – red, yellow, and blue, from which all the others can be made, symbolizing that delicate balance of forces in nature that allows nurturing and growth.
All of these shapes, colors, and natural forms can be thought of as ‘words’ in the vocabulary of symbols I’ve developed to communicate my experience of the oneness of every thing in nature. Layers of transparent lightfast lithography inks are built up on sheets of Rives BFK 100% cotton printmaking paper, then pieces of these prints are cut out and fitted together to form new compositions. Other media, such as decorative papers, watercolor pencils, and crayons may be added. This colorful, stunning piece will bring a sense of peace and oneness to any room in your home or office.
Transformation 24 is a colorful mixed media collage mounted on archival black matboard and ‘floated’ behind an off-white mat. It is framed behind clear plexiglass in an antique gold finished metal frame. See the included image for reference. If you would prefer to frame it yourself, please contact me.
